Review by Clem Burr

Don McLean's album "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" is a moving and introspective collection of songs that showcase the artist's signature style and storytelling abilities. The album opens with the melancholic title track, which sets the tone for the rest of the record. McLean's voice is raw and emotional, conveying a sense of longing and regret that is palpable throughout the album.

One standout track is "Lover's Love," a soulful ballad that explores the complexities of relationships and the power of love. McLean's lyrics are poetic and poignant, and his delivery is heartfelt and sincere. Another highlight is "Homeless Brother," a haunting song that speaks to the plight of the homeless and the struggles of those who have been cast aside by society.

This song was actually written by Paul Anka.

Wow, I love Don's take on this so much. His love for Buddy Holly obviously influenced him a lot (ever heard a little tune called American Pie?) and his dark take on this song really adds melancholy to and contrasts the upbeat, flippant sound of Buddy Holly's recording. It really reflects and acknowledges the fact that it's the last track he ever recorded before his tragic death.

I was lucky enough to see Don perform this recently, and he talked about how it has a lot of significance for him because of that.

Many people have covered it over the years, but I think Don really blows them all out of the water with his usual emotional awareness.

This was a pleasant cover. I've never heard him sing this classic Paul Anka/Buddy Holly song. It's funny with ballads you can change the speed of the rhythm, but you can't change the rhythm itself. I'll leave that there. I really just wanted to say thanks for this one, it's a new favorite for me. Have a great weekend.
