Love Phil’s drumming Peter is really out there frighten

They were very very good and much maligned. They carry off the fiddly riff with panache. I doubt that's the sound of a crowd at 'Shepparton Studios' - sounds like a stadium roar to me. I think that may be dubbed in for effect. Doesn't detract from the music. Ha, Gabriel freaking out the stoners...

This is to me the greatest ever modern song ever made, it's perfection.Used to listen to it on a gramophone in the early 70s.

Steve Hackett's Albert Hall performance is pretty impressive & the sound is superb. I really like the warmth of this 1973 performance though.

Anybody heard of King Crimson? Their 1969 "In The Court of the Crimson King" had a huge impact on Genesis, Yes, & other early prog groups. Bill Bruford has described hearing "21st Century Schizoid Man" -- the first track on the album: "...this God almighty powerful beast uncoiled itself. It wasn’t at all like anything else anybody had ever heard. Nobody knew what the hell this thing was. The lyrics were different, the way the musicians conducted themselves was different, the sound was different,..." I think it was Genesis who got Crimson's "spare" Mellotron as their first one.

If you're intro early prog & you haven't heard "In The Court of the Crimson King" you owe it to yourself to find a copy -- it's probably on YouTube -- and sit down & listen to it.

My only problem with this performance is that Peter Gabriel is the only one wearing a costume and makeup.
