Review by Otto Krog

The album "Friendly Loans Loved Her The Whole Week Through" by Marcels is a classic example of the doo-wop genre. Released in 1962, the album features 12 tracks that showcase the group's smooth harmonies and catchy melodies.

The lead single "Friendly Loans" is a playful tune that tells the story of a man who borrows money from his girlfriend and promises to pay her back with love. It's a fun and upbeat track that sets the tone for the rest of the album.

Other standout tracks include "Loved Her The Whole Week Through," a soulful ballad about a man who can't stop thinking about his lover, and "Blue Moon," a cover of the classic song that the Marcels put their own spin on.

About The Marcels

The Marcels were a doo-wop group formed in 1959 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with Cornelius Harp (lead), Fred Johnson (bass), Gene Bricker, Ron Mundy, and Richard Knauss. In 1961, Richard Knauss and Gene Bricker left and were replaced by Allen Johnson (brother of Fred) and Walt Maddox. Ron Mundy left the group soon after their departure. In 1962, Cornelius Harp and Allen Johnson left, and were replaced by Richard Harris and William Herndon. A brief reunion of the original members took place in 1973 and the group made several recordings in 1975 with original lead vocalist Cornelius Harp. In 1961 "Blue Moon" sold a million copies and is featured in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. The Marcels were inducted into The Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002.

I. So happy to find this! My mother loved this song. She played it on her record player. I still have the '45! The flip side was Loved Her The Whole Week Through. Thanks!

What a great tune. Thanks for sharing.

Go, go, go, go
Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry
Git, git, git, git, git
A git over to Friendly Loans
We wanna see you at Friendly Loans
That neighborly low-cost, long term
Uptown low down payment company

My Baby said she'd marry me
But there was just one thing
I had to go and buy her
A great big diamond ring
I didn't have no money
I didn't know where to go
Until I heard that fella say
On the radio

A Git, git, git, git
A git over to Friendly Loans
Hurry over to Friendly Loans
All you have to do is sign
On the dotted line
And the money is there
And the treatment is fine
At Friendly Loans
We wanna see you at Friendly Loans
That neighborly low-cost long term
Uptown lowdown payment company

Well after we both said "I Do"
We had to move somewhere
Found a great apartment
But all my youth was there
Didn't have no money
To fix the place up nice
Then I recalled that friendly voice
With that good advice

A Git, git, git, git
A git over to Friendly Loans
Hurry over to Friendly Loans
That neighborly low-cost long term
Uptown lowdown payment company

Well everything was wonderful
Until that fatal day
I couldn't keep my payments up
So in a friendly way
They repossessed my sofa
And rugs up off the floor
And I could hear that radio
As it went out the door

Go, Go, Go, Go
Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry
Git, git, git, git, git
Git over to Friendly Loans
Hurry over to Friendly Loans
That neighborly low-cost long term
Uptown lowdown payment company
