Review by John Koessler

The Westmorelands' latest album, For Lifes History, is a tour de force of indie rock that is both introspective and uplifting. The band's signature sound is on full display here, with catchy guitar riffs and driving rhythms that will have listeners tapping their feet and nodding their heads in time.

The album's lyrics are deeply personal and reflective, touching on themes of love, loss, and the passage of time. The standout track, "All That We Had," is a haunting ballad that speaks to the universal experience of heartbreak and the struggle to find meaning in its aftermath.

The Westmorelands' musicianship is top-notch throughout the album, with each member contributing to the overall sound in a meaningful way. The production is also excellent, with a polished yet organic feel that allows the band's raw energy to shine through.

About The Westmorelands

The Westmorelands were a Boston based indie rock quartet formed by Michael Crittenden in the mid to late 80s. Their sound was similar to that of of music coming out of the Southeastern US at the time (the Athens, GA scene in particular) with little strains of Morrisey and Peter Buck thrown in. Crittenden performed leading and backing vocals as well as on lead guitar, while band-mates Erik P (lead and backing vocals, rhythm guitar), Nick Whine (drums, backing vocals), and Cliff (bass) contributed to their melodic sound. The Westmorelands recorded only one release, 1988's "For Life's History" for Wigwam Records. Sadly there were no other recordings. However, listening to what they had produced, it is truly a shame they never landed a major recording deal, as these lads were sincerely talented. So, like so many before and since, their music has faded into obscurity. While there is seemingly little information about the band members, Michael Crittenden did manage to eke out a career in music. Crittenden later returned to his native home of Grand Rapids, MI where he founded the folk rock band, Troll for Trout. Since that time he has been a major influence on the Midwest music scene as a producer, mentor, and spiritual guide to many a hopeful Midwest music act.
